The Wedding We Built From Scratch

When Eilin and Bennett first reached out to us through a referral, I was genuinely so excited. Their venue was a private property we had never worked at before, and there was something especially thrilling about stepping into an untouched space. In fact, it was so beautiful that I even toyed with the idea of having my own wedding there.
But as lovely as it was, it was also the kind of venue that came with a very different set of demands.
It was classified as an event space, which meant almost everything had to be built from scratch — lighting, sound, tables and chairs, décor, food and beverages, and all the little essentials that a traditional hotel ballroom would already have in place. Thankfully, having previously done a wedding at the F1 Pit Building gave us some confidence, because that too was an event space. So while this was not entirely foreign territory, it still required a much greater extent of setup.
For Eilin and Bennett’s wedding, we brought in air-conditioned tentages to expand the sheltered areas, and even built a platform over the swimming pool to create more usable space. The setup began days before the actual wedding, and even after the celebration ended, teardown had to be accounted for as well. It was one of those weddings where you really begin to understand how every rental hour, every structure, and every logistical need adds up.
And the truth is, when you build a wedding from scratch like this, the cost per guest can very easily exceed what you might spend at a hotel or restaurant. It is something I always feel future couples should know, because creating a wedding in a blank space often looks romantic at first glance, but it comes with a level of investment many do not initially realise.
Was it worth it though? Absolutely.
Because what Eilin and Bennett had at the end of it all was something completely their own. A wedding shaped so intentionally around their vision, in a space that felt personal, intimate, and unlike anything else. And that is the beauty of weddings like this — they may demand more, but in return, they give you something truly one of a kind.
There will never be another wedding exactly like theirs, and that in itself made it so special.
